In a very surprising announcement today, Redmond revealed that it will voluntarily replace more than fourteen-million Xbox power cords, after safety concerns were brought to the firm's attention. The problem is apparently very small, but Microsoft are obviously keen to give this a positive spin and not risk a potentially embarrassing incident, and we think they're being jolly cautious even going this far. The faulty power cord issue reportedly only effects 1 console in 10,000 - but there is the risk of a small electrical fire or even a burn, in rare cases. "In all regions except Continental Europe, Xbox consoles manufactured before 23rd October, 2003 require a replacement power cord. In Continental Europe, consoles manufactured before 13th January, 2004 require a replacement power cord," read an official statement.
Gamers can order their new cable via Xbox.com, and those without the web can call the following numbers, 0800 028 9276 in the UK, and 1800 923947 in Eire. "Not all replacement cords that Microsoft supplies to program participants will look the same. Which type of cord is shipped will depend on the date the console was manufactured and the country where it is used," we're also informed by Microsoft - who all in all have handled this emergency with commendable responsibility.
